The Season of Creation – A World of Resources

The Season of Creation has a special significance for the Catholic Church, particularly since Pope Francis established 1 September as an annual World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation. The Season of Creation or Creation Time, is marked throughout the Christian world from 1 September to 4 October (Feast of St. Francis of Assisi) and celebrates the joy of creation as well as encouraging awareness-raising initiatives to protect the natural environment.

  • Watch this 1 minute video about Laudato Si’, narrated by Bono, before we start learning about Laudato Si’.
  • Read the brief introductory chapter of the Laudato Si’ encyclical . It is the initial 16 paragraphs, in which Pope Francis explains why he decided to write the encyclical, while describing St. Francis of Assisi as the model to guide us in this journey.
  • Take time to watch this video and reflect on the words within – giving thanks to the Master Painter.

  • Pray the Season of Creation Prayer 2020
  • Read a message from Pope Francis for the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation
