Peter is probably my closest friend, and I love him: he leads me from the destructive fire of betrayal to the cleansing fire of confession.

And that’s our journey through the Holy Week when we pray for the renewal of our shoulders.

Our shoulders called to bear the cross.

Mine are usually cold and require some holding to warm up.

They know daily and eternal work; they know love and anger; they know worship and sin.

I often put them on my chest and point to my heart when speaking of things that matter to me.

And my grip used to be strong in those old times when we still did some hand-shaking.
