Mission/Vision Statement

St. Kevin’s N.S. is a Catholic primary school for boys and girls from Junior Infants up to Sixth Class.

The school ethos describes the essential spirit of the school, the interaction between our beliefs, attitudes and values and the daily practices and traditions which are maintained.

We have tried to capture a sense of our positive ethos in the following statement:

St. Kevin’s National School encourages and guides each and every child in developing fully their own gifts while caring for one another in the way Jesus taught us. As a school community it values the contribution of all its members, respects their uniqueness and responds to their individual needs in a caring and supportive way. It sees itself as an extension of the family. As a parish school it encourages pupils to participate in parish activities appropriate for their age.

The community of St. Kevin’s National School comprises many different groups of people: pupils, parents, teachers, support staff, Parents’ Association and Board of Management. As a school community we promote partnership between home, school and parish and work together to achieve our aims:

  • To provide a secure and happy atmosphere within a stimulating environment where children can learn effectively.
  • To provide equal access for all children to a broad balanced curriculum which takes into account the requirements of the Department of Education and Skills’ curriculum.
  • To help children to acknowledge that every person is uniquely created by God, is valued equally and is cherished for what he/she is rather than what he/she does.
  • To inspire tolerance, confidence, respect, politeness and high standards of behaviour for all members of the school community.
  • To build an inclusive, caring and respectful school community which promotes participation of all members in lifelong education.

Brief History

St. Kevin’s was initially a Christian Brothers’ School (C.B.S.) and the original school building was completed in 1949. The management of the school was handed over to Greystones Parish in 1986, and, in 1998, St. Kevin’s became a vertical co-educational national school. This change led to a rapid increase in enrolment. An extension of ten new classrooms, a Sports Hall and a Learning Support room was completed in 2003 to accommodate the increasing numbers. The most recent building project, completed in August 2011, comprises of a Language Class, Speech & Language Therapy room, and additional/refurbished Special Educational Needs’ rooms.

Other information

Today, St. Kevin’s has a student population of 500+, 18 Mainstream Classes, 5 Special Educational Needs Teachers, a class for children with Specific Speech and Language Impairment and six Special Needs Assistants.
